Tampere invites the whole city community to create best-ever World Championships – join in using these tips

Ice Hockey World Championships return to the roots of Finnish ice hockey in May when Tampere hosts the tournament as the main venue for the first time in 57 years. The men’s 2022 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship take place in Tampere and Helsinki on May 13-29 but all the games from semi-finals onwards will be played in Tampere. 

Tampere will honor the occasion of hockey coming home at global level by organizing the best-ever World Championships together with the residents and the city community. 

• Ice hockey is a common passion for everyone in Tampere. It is part of our DNA, and it unites people from different backgrounds and generations exceptionally, says Saara Saarteinen, Head of Events at City of Tampere. 
• Tampere is the Home of Hockey. We will be faithful to our history and organize the best World Championships ever.

Everyone’s Home of Hockey

City of Tampere invites the whole city community to get together and participate in creating a shared Home of Hockey for everyone.

The key areas in the city center will be decorated with the Home of Hockey theme for three weeks in May. 

Local businesses and communities can order Home of Hockey print files produced by the City of Tampere on webpage Participate! – 2022 Jääkiekon MM-kisat Tampere and use them to decorate their premises. 

During the spring, the Home of Hockey theme will also be seen in a significant way in various side events in Tampere.  There will be a Home of Hockey activity zone at Central Square to try out different sports. Tuomiokirkonkatu will be the main event street decorated with the Home of Hockey theme. In addition, there will be a Home of Hockey open-air concert on May 11.

• Create activities or events matching the Home of Hockey theme  
• Submit your event to the event calendar on the Home of Hockey -page 
• Share information about your event and the vibes preparing your event on social media by using hashtags #KiekonKoti #TampereHomeOfHockey 
• Share the atmosphere, pictures and videos of your event on different channels 
• Invite others to join and create the best-ever World Championships in Tampere1 
• Participate in the open-air concert on May 11, 2022
