Tampere builds Ice Hockey World Championships for all citizens

The Ice hockey World Championship will return to the Finnish Hockey Capital in May when Tampere hosts the 2022 Men’s Ice Hockey World Championship as the main organizer for the first time in 57 years. The 2022 Ice hockey World Championship will take place in Tampere and Helsinki on 13-29 May. From the semi-finals onwards, the games will take place at Nokia Arena only. 

Tampere wants to celebrate hockey coming home at a global level by organizing the World Championships for all citizens. 

The city will be decorated to a true Home of Hockey, a theme produced by the City of Tampere. Home of Hockey theme will be visible all over the city during the spring and the World Championship tournament. In addition, there will also be an open-air concert at Frenckell Square on 11 May.

Additionally, different services of the City have united to create sense of community and bring joy to various groups during the World Championships.

School children, young people, customers of social and health services, as well as elderly citizens have been given a chance to win tickets to the World Championships via various campaigns during this winter and spring. Specified groups will get 6700 tickets to the World Championships through different services and programmes of the City. 

• We want to enable as many residents as possible to attend this unforgettable event. The historical Ice Hockey World Championships are an event for the whole city, states Anna-Kaisa Ikonen, Mayor of Tampere. 

School classes have been given a chance to win tickets for the whole group by taking pictures and making videos on reading and sports activities of the class.  Tickets are also distributed via family support centres and youth centres around the city, and at Municipal Service Centres for the elderly.

The remaining World Championships ticket campaigns will be issued by different services of the City in March and April.
