Pictures and videos of cats have long served as a light escape for many, calming the mind and reducing stress. Seeing cats can take your mind off the things of the world. Why this happens is probably as mysterious as the cats themselves.

However, cats are relatable to us – their daily habits reflect human moods, they have personal boundaries and a constant fluctuation between the desire for companionship and solitude. The cats' faces are also very expressive, which gives the viewer the opportunity to imagine what they are thinking or feeling.

Some of the cats in the pictures are familiar (or less familiar) from videos or memes, some are completely self-created. All the same, I hope you enjoy the exhibition.

Jaakko Leinonen (b. 1988) is a visual artist from Tampere who graduated from the Sara Hildén Academy in 2025.

The works in this exhibition were created during 2026.
