Birding trip for young people to Halimasjärvi

This trip is aimed at young people under the age of 29 and is organised in collaboration with the Pirkanmaan lintutieteellinen yhdistys and Luontoliiton Hämeen piiri.

Let's go to observe birds and early summer nature in the Halimasjärvi nature reserve! This forest area between Atala, Risso and Kumpula is a real gem of Tampere's local nature destinations, where several bird species that are rare in the urban area nest. Let's see if the red-throated loons are there, if the whistling of a hazel grouse is heard and if a three-toed woodpecker is knocking food in rotten trees. With luck, we can also see a goshawk, a crested tit and a wren or hear the song of a wood warbler and a dunnock. 

You don't need to know anything about birds in advance, just be enthusiastic about learning together! Jenku Piesanen will be your guide on the trip. Luontoliitto has a few binoculars for loan, but if you have any at home, you should bring them. We will be walking both on tree trunks and paths in the forest, so it is a good idea to wear walking shoes suitable for uneven terrain. The trip will take a couple of hours. 

We will meet at Halimasjärvi beach at 12 noon. The easiest way to get there is by taking tram line 1 to the Kauppi campus and changing to bus number 18 to Atala. The nearest bus stop is in Atala, stop Ahkionkatu 5262, which is a five-minute walk to the beach. For example, the tram leaving from the Rautatieasema B stop at 11:25 and the connecting bus will get you there just in time. If you are coming by car, you can find a parking space along the nearby streets. There is no parking area at the beach.

In case of heavy rain or wind, the event may be cancelled or postponed. Information about changes will be posted on the Pily website's event calendar (pily.fi/tapahtumakalenteri) and on Facebook and Instagram event listings no later than the previous evening.
