Tampere Moving Theatre's Rautatie tour continues in spring 2026
The joint performance of Tampere Theatre and Tampere Workers' Theatre, Rautatie, will tour Tampere again from January 2026. Tampereen Liikkuvan Näyttämö's free touring performances will be seen in the city's libraries, cultural centres and meeting places, among other places.
The latest performance by Tampereen Liikkuvan Näyttämö, the joint stage of Tampere Theatre and Tampere Workers' Theatre, is Rautatie, based on the short story by Juhani Aho, and adapted into a play by Auvo Vihro. In addition to Vihro, the roles will be played by Annuska Hannula (TT) and Minna Hokkanen (TTT). The artistic director of the working group is Riikka Papunen (TTT). Rautatie tells a big story about the lives of small people on the verge of change. Matti and Liisa hear that a railway has been built in Lapinlahti. Although they are scared by the new gadget, they decide to go and see it and think: “I think something like that will come to every cottage one day.” Juhani Aho wrote the novel Rautatie 140 years ago, when he was only 22 years old. The story, which is over a hundred years old, describes people's thoughts about the change in the world. The premiere of the performance was in October 2024 at TTT's Kellariteatteri, from where Rautatie went on tour after six public performances. So far, Rautatie has had 28 touring performances, with a total of 1,603 spectators.
Thanks to Tampereen Liikkuvan Näyttämö, Tampere residents will be able to see Rautatie theatre performances for the tenth time in spring 2026, including at seniors' meeting places, libraries and cultural centres around Tampere. The City of Tampere acts as an important partner and enabler of the Liikkuvan Näyttämö. The cooperation between the theatres and the city is based on the ideas of everyone's right to art and the possibility of culture as a part of promoting the well-being, health and inclusion of people of all ages.
