Environmental art workshops for compostable art
30.5.2026
15.30 - 17.00
Hirvitalo - Pispala Contemporary Art Center, Hirvikatu 10, 33240 Tampere
In the art workshop we will explore natural, decaying materials and create environmental art works for the garden of the Hirvitalo. The workshops are aimed at all ages and no previous experience in making art is required.
Saturday 30.5.2026
Earthy art-workshop at 15:30 - 17:00
In the Earthy art-workshop, you will dip your hands in the soil and shape a small sculpture from earthy materials. You can observe the life of the sculptures throughout the growing season, as they will be left in the Hirvitalo yard during the summer. The sculptures will form a small, disappearing sculpture park.
Sunday 31.5.2026
Twines-workshop at 11:00-12:30
In the Twines-workshop, participants weave a common network at the Hirvitalo gate. The network created and woven together will develop throughout the summer and its life can be observed at the same time. The weaving uses natural fiber yarns and natural materials found in the local area.
The workshops are open and participation is free.
The workshops are led by Hanne Lammi and Anne Savitie. Hanne Lammi is a puppeteer specializing in earth-based environmental art (YAMK, Turku University of Applied Sciences, Art Academy, 2025). In making art, she is fascinated by the transparency of processes, the life cycle of the work, diversity and the handling of entanglement in both subject and material choices. Anne Savitie is a visual artist specialized in plant art.

The ecologic art workshops are part of a program located in the Hirvitalo garden during the summer, which has received funding from the City of Tampere's Mansen massit-call.
