Winter nature excursion to Suolijärvi in Hervanta

28.2.2026

13.00 - 16.00

Suolijärvenkatu 7, 33720 Tampere

Winter break nature excursion to Suolijärvi in Hervanta. On this excursion, we will explore together how nature stays alive even in winter. Please dress warmly and bring a snack.

The excursion will start on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 1 p.m. from the Suolijärvi outdoor recreation center and will last approximately three hours. The guide will be environmental biologist and biology teacher Tuomas Lilleberg. The main language of the excursion is Finnish, but English speaking people are also welcome to join.

Although winter conditions are challenging, animals and plants adapt to them in different ways. During the excursion, we will learn about animal signs and tracks and how plants hibernate. The hike will mainly follow a nature trail for a total of three kilometers, partly on uneven terrain. The hike is accessible.

At the end of the hike, the group will head to the Suolioja campfire site to enjoy snacks and the glow of the fire.

Dress warmly and bring snacks

Be prepared with warm clothing. It is often windy at the campfire site, and layering will keep you warm. Wool socks, sweaters, thick gloves, and winter boots will ensure that you can enjoy the winter nature. Bring plenty of snacks, a water bottle, a seat pad, and, if you like, a thermos of hot drink. Binoculars and a magnifying glass are also useful items to bring along.

Your guide will be environmental biologist and biology teacher Tuomas Lilleberg.

Meeting place: Suolijärvenkatu 5, next to Kuikka Cafe

Time: Saturday, February 28, 1:00-4:00 p.m.
