Thar Be Dragons: Resurrecting Dead Darlings
– A Palindromic Process of Artistic Rebirth
A co-production between Thar Be Dragons, Raekallio Corp and Kekäläinen & Co, Resurrecting Dead Darlings explores how unused ideas and personal document archives can be brought to life through the redefinition of a performance. The project is divided into three phases: incubation, gestation and birth/resurrection.
In 2024, Thar Be Dragons (TBD) will begin the incubation part of the project. Dance artists Ryan Mason and Annamari Keskinen, along with sound designer Timo Tikka, will awaken their creativity through the search, archiving, curation and sharing of their dead darlings in new guises. The project emphasizes the artistic process as a dynamic journey – a platform for continuous change, the embracing of unfinished work and creative exploration, bringing to the fore the symbiotic relationship between authors and viewers/co-experiencers.

KATJA MUSTONEN & WORKING GROUP: EPÄ/TOSI
A contemporary dance piece about the various forms of truth and untruth, and the obscure line that separates them. Directed by choreographer Katja Mustonen for the team of Anna-Kaarina Jokinen, Catrin Kaitaro, Ines Kakkonen, Jenna Laurila and Veera Leppänen.
Exploring the limits and potential of fact and fiction, and imagining alternate realities, the creative team examines social norms and the performative nature of acts. What kinds of images and stories do we project about ourselves and others? Are we ever really free of learned methods and narratives? Un/true contemplates the concepts of realness, authenticity and performativity – the parallels, divisions and possible simultaneity between them. In the end, is everything just a performance, and at which point does true become untrue?
