Hirvitalo - Pispala Contemporary Art Center, Hirvikatu 10, 33240 Tampere
The new exhibitions at Pispalan Nykytaiteen Keskus discuss, among other things, through recycled materials.
Gladys Camilo - I Am a Mythical Being
The exhibition presents a series of patchwork and sculptural works made from recycled materials and natural dyes, sewn and hand-quilted during a months-long process. Each work accumulates smaller material experiments, reflections, memories and things, the making of which involves thoughts of care. They are connected into one surface that archives time and work. Alongside the works are handwritten notes about the working process, making each work a living archive that makes the making visible.
During the exhibition, Gladys Camilo will hold an appliqué workshop on Sunday, October 4th, from 4–7 pm.
Appliqué is widely used in patchwork: small pieces or patches of fabric are attached to the surface of a larger fabric to form a picture or pattern. Previous hand sewing experience is helpful, but not essential. Materials will be provided on site, but if you have a garment or fabric you would like to decorate, feel free to bring it along. The workshop language is English, and families and children are also welcome.
The workshop is free.
Gladys Camilo (she/they) is a multidisciplinary artist who works with painting and textiles. Her work archives what is usually not remembered – small actions, fleeting thoughts, feelings and the everyday that fills the space between work and rest. The methods include slow processes such as hand dyeing and hand sewing.
Kasvimaa collective: Ketchup archive fever dream
Ketchup archive fever dream is a group exhibition and time capsule that draws on hazy childhood and youth memories. The exhibition brings together works by four artists to address the fragmentary and unreliability of memories, and how the personal becomes a shared experience over time. The works revolve around the theme of nostalgia, as if in a groping attempt to hold on to something that was probably lost long ago. Questions arise: Which memories are worth preserving, and on the other hand, were they true in the first place?

Kasvimaa collective is a collective formed in Helsinki in 2025, whose members are united by the desire to utilize materials found in nature, and an emphasis on making things with their own hands in art and when organizing events. We are particularly interested in finding alternative spaces and ways to present art instead of traditional gallery space.
