Tango–Guitar–Flamenco Week: Workshop, Flamenco Singing: Antonio Hurtado
Flamenco is an art form with deep roots in Andalusia, but is now performed all over the world. Traditional flamenco, at its purest, consists of singing, guitar and dancing, in which the performers "conversate" with each other in an organic and intuitive way, sharing a common compás – rhythm or swing – and palo, the flamenco genre.
A flamenco singing workshop that you can participate in as a singer or as a listener. Duration approximately 90 min. The lessons are in Spanish and will be interpreted into Finnish if necessary. The course fee is invoiced in advance.
Advance registration required. The organizer reserves the right to cancel the course if there are not enough participants.
Teacher Antonio Hurtado
Antonio Hurtado is a Sevillian cantaor with a strong background in the communal world of flamenco: in peñóns, festivals and as an accompanist for dances. Her artistic foundation combines family tradition, practical stage experience and continuous study under the guidance of leading flamenco instructors.
In 2024, Hurtado won first prize in Cristina Heeren's Concurso Talento Flamenco de Cante competition and received the Naranjito de Triana award and an Acciona scholarship.
In Tampere, Mario Ruiz & Co.'s flamenco concert Carta a mi madre (Letter to my mother) will have its world premiere on Saturday, September 19 at 7 pm in Pyynikkisali. The central character of the work is the young Mexican dancer Mario Ruiz, around whom the Seville-based guitar and vocal ensemble: Eloy Cito Gonzales, Silvia Reina and Antonio Hurtado are built. Together, they bring an emotional story to the heart of flamenco, where footwork, silence, melody and the sheer power of the voice tell what words alone cannot.
The event is part of the Tango–Guitar–Flamenco Week program. Tampere Tango Festival, Tampere Guitar Festival and Tampere Flamenco Week together form the Tango—Guitar—Flamenco Week, which will be held from 11 to 20 September 2026.
