Pirkanmaa Youth Shelter Open House
Saturday, 19 September 2026
10:00 AM-3:00 PM (you are welcome to arrive at any time during the event)
Address: Hämeenkatu 22 C, Tampere
Please ring the doorbell and we will open the main entrance and the staircase leading to the 4th floor.
We will introduce the services of the Youth Shelter and the various volunteering opportunities available for supporting young people. You may register in advance or simply attend without registration. You can register here.
Youth Shelters provide support and assistance for young people aged 12-29 and their loved ones across Finland through the online service Nettiturvis and locally through five Youth Shelters. The Pirkanmaa Youth Shelter is located in the heart of Tampere city centre.
In addition to free crisis support and counselling services, young people can access temporary accommodation through the shelter's crisis housing service. At the Youth Shelter, young people and their families receive support from both staff members and volunteers working together.
As a Youth Shelter volunteer, you have the opportunity to support young people and their loved ones by participating in activities in a flexible way that suits your interests and schedule. No prior professional experience or special skills are required. What matters most is a genuine interest in young people and a willingness to support them through your presence and everyday actions.
We welcome volunteers of all ages and from all language and cultural backgrounds. Some volunteer roles may require a minimum age or sufficient Finnish language skills.
As a volunteer, you can for example:
• Act as a trusted adult for young people staying in crisis accommodation
• Support a young person who is transitioning to independent living
• Meet and support young people through the Sekasin Chat service (requires Finnish or Swedish language skills)
• Participate in outreach activities (such as school visits and events)
• After gaining experience, serve as a mentor volunteer
