Flamenco guitar workshop, which you can participate in as an active or listener. The teaching is in Spanish and, if necessary, interpretation is provided into Finnish or English. The course fee is invoiced in advance. The organizer reserves the right to cancel the course if there are not enough participants.
Teacher Eloy Cito Gonzales (MEX)
Gonzales began his flamenco career in 2010 at the Tierra Adentro school in New Mexico, where he studied flamenco guitar and dance. His first teachers, Mario Febres and Ricardo Anglada, laid the foundation for his career as a musician, and he soon received a scholarship to the National Institute of Flamenco's Conservatory of Flamenco Arts to continue his studies. In 2019, Gonzales joined Yjastros: The American Flamenco Repertory Company and performed with it in 2023 at Spain's prestigious Festival de Jerez.
In 2024, Gonzales was selected as a finalist in the Concurso Talento Flamenco de Guitarra de Acompañamiento, which earned him a scholarship to study at the Fundación Cristina Heeren de Arte Flamenco in Seville. There, he has studied under, among others, Pedro Sierra, Pedro Barragán, Salvador Gutiérrez and Juan Campallo, and received another scholarship for the academic year 2025-2026. Currently living in Seville, Gonzales regularly performs in tablaos, flamenco clubs and theaters around the world.
Mario Ruiz & Co's flamenco concert Carta a mi madre (Letter to my mother) will have its world premiere in Tampere on Saturday 19 September. at 7 p.m. in Pyynikkisali. The central figure of the work is the young Mexican dancer Mario Ruiz, around whom the guitar and vocal ensemble based in Seville is built: Eloy Cito Gonzales, Silvia Reina and Antonio Hurtado. Together, they raise an emotional narrative to the core of flamenco, where footwork, silence, melody and the bare power of the voice tell what words alone are not enough.
The event is part of the Tango–Guitar–Flamenco Week program. The Tampere Tango Festival, the Tampere Guitar Festival and the Tampere Flamenco Week together form the Tango—Guitar—Flamenco week, which takes place from 11 to 20 September 2026.
