Hilkka Luosa We the Winged Ones

Hilkka Luosa's paintings revolve around the position of animals in the world built by humans.

She paints figuratively, although she works her paintings closer to abstraction and the use of pure lines.

Luosa's paintings are portraits or self-portraits, and whenever animals are involved, they stem from animal rights issues that she has been considering for a couple of decades.

In this exhibition, Luosa presents works that specifically feature our winged friends. Although Luosa's paintings are colorful and mostly easy to look at, their starting point is often some deep experience of injustice or other painful reflection. However, in this exhibition, there are more glimmers of hope than usual, as our winged friends represent joy and comfort to the artist.
