Reading Circle: Sara Hildén - A Fearless Advocate of Art

Welcome to a reading circle where we dive into the life and legacy of one of the most significant figures in Finnish art history, Sara Hildén (1905-1993).

Raised in an industrial family, an entrepreneur, and a passionate art collector, Sara Hildén built a collection that grew into one of Finland’s most important collections of modern art. Her determined vision, courage, and uncompromising taste left a lasting mark on the Finnish art scene – ultimately making possible the founding of the Sara Hildén Art Museum in Tampere.

The evening’s discussion will be based on “Hyvä Sara!” by Anna Kortelainen, a book that opens a window into Hildén’s life through letters, memories, and the spirit of her time. The work reveals not only a major cultural influencer, but also a complex human being – a woman of strength and contradictions who dared to walk her own path at a time when it was far from self-evident.

You do not need to have read the entire book to participate. It is enough to be interested in the topic and curious to learn more about who Sara Hildén was and why her influence continues to shape Finnish art today.

The evening will begin at Pispala Library, after which we will head together to visit the Sara Hildén Art Museum and continue our conversation in the presence of art itself.
