Surento is a unique band formed by lament singers Liisa Matveinen, Emmi Kuittinen and Emilia Kallonen, focusing on Karelian and Ingrian lamentations and runic songs.
Surento's debut album Sulatoin contains lamentations and runic songs.
The concert will feature music from the album Sulatoin and CDs will be on sale at the concert.
Karelian and Ingrian laments are poetic - sung messages to the unseen other world. They express grief connected with death and other separation rituals. Laments are part of the communal grieving at funerals, weddings or when leaving for the army or war. They also ease everyday sorrows and worries.
The lamenting expressions include metaphorical, gentle and respectful words, as well as a melancholic melody and style of performance that evokes empathy and sympathy.
The concert will last an hour. There will be no coffee in connection with it.
The hall is accessible and we ask the audience to note that it is odorless.
The concert is acoustic and does not contain bright lights.
