Vuohenoja restoration volunteer event

16.8.2025

11.00 - 17.00

Pekanpuisto - North, 33560 Tampere and other locations

KVVY Association and the City of Tampere's City Blues project organize voluntary work to build spawning grounds in Vuohenoja, with the aim of improving the trout's chances of reproducing.

KVVY Association organizes a volunteer restoration event at Vuohenoja in cooperation with the City of Tampere’s City Blues project. Since spring 2020, KVVY Association has been releasing brown trout eggs into Vuohenoja using incubation boxes, and the results have been highly successful. These releases will end after spring 2026, meaning that from autumn 2026 onward, the trout population will rely entirely on natural reproduction. During the volunteer event, spawning gravel beds will be constructed in the stream to improve the trout’s breeding conditions.

We warmly encourage families to join the event together — there will be suitable tasks for everyone! You can participate according to your own schedule. Please dress warmly and appropriately for the weather. We recommend rubber boots or waders and clothes that can get dirty. All necessary tools and gloves will be provided. Refreshments and snacks will be available during the event.

As part of the restoration event, we aim to organize an electrofishing demonstration in the target area. Electrofishing helps assess the presence of brown trout in the stream before restoration measures are carried out. If you’d like to observe the demonstration, please arrive at the site no later than 10:30 AM. The event ends by 5:00 PM.

Parking will be organized at the Leivonpesä parking area (Keihäskatu 4, 33530 Tampere). The meeting point for the event is marked in red on the map below, and the parking area is marked in blue. As parking space is limited, we recommend using public transport, walking, or cycling!

Please register for the volunteer event using the form below no later than Friday, August 8th, so we can prepare the right amount of equipment and refreshments. Even if you're not completely sure about your participation, we kindly ask you to register anyway.

City Blues is an EU Interreg Baltic Sea Region funded project in which cities develop nature-based solutions for flood prevention and stormwater management. As part of the project, alluvial meadows have been built in the Varsanpuisto and Huhmarpelto areas. The restoration site is located about 400 meters downstream from the alluvial meadows, in Pekanpuisto, Huikas area. Read more: https://www.tampere.fi/organisaatio/city-blues
