The Tampere Biennale, the leading festival of modern Finnish art music, celebrates its 40th anniversary. The theme for this anniversary year is Roots.

The Tampere Biennale, the leading festival of modern Finnish art music, celebrates its 40th anniversary. The theme for this anniversary year is Roots, highlighting the voices of composers resident in Finland, the diversity of contemporary music and the ability of art to mirror the world. The festival programme features more than 30 world premieres and music by around 80 composers.


The festival’s international composer guest, the Polish Agata Zubel, will give a lecture and a masterclass in English. The Society of Finnish Composers will host a seminar titled Composing in Between Cultures. The seminar will also be held in English.


In addition to the concerts and discussions, the programme features exhibitions, urban art and a family day. A significant part of the programme is free of charge.
