An evening of introduction to the cheerful and energetic couple dance of Lindy Hop

This class introduces you to Lindy Hop, a cheerful and energetic African-American couple dance that originated in the 1920s in the United States as part of jazz culture, especially in Harlem, New York. Lindy Hop was danced to swing music, and it developed as a communal dance among dancers.

In the 1930s, Lindy Hop became very popular and also developed into professional stage entertainment. African-American dancers constantly brought new ideas and variations to the dance, and from this creative environment came the playfulness, rhythmic richness, and strong connection to music that are characteristic of Lindy Hop.

The beginner class focuses on the core of Lindy Hop: the basic rhythm, dancing with a partner, and listening to the music. The emphasis of the class is on having a good time and experiencing success, not on performing. To participate, you don't need any previous dance experience or your own pair – comfortable clothes and slip-on indoor shoes are sufficient, socks are fine. It's also worth booking a change of clothes and something to drink, because it gets warm when you move. After the beginner's class, the evening continues to the beat of swing music.

The teachers at the Swing Team Dance Club are Sami and Tea, who coach Lindy Hop. Their classes focus on the rhythm of the music, communication between couples, and finding the bounce that is characteristic of Lindy Hop. For them, dance is primarily about having fun and doing something nice together!

Swing Team Club is a Tampere-based dance club specializing in rock and swing dances, which has been offering dance lessons and dance events for both adults and children since 1997.
