Local food day in Raudanmaa

The Finnish Local Food Day will be celebrated again on Saturday, September 12, 2026, and this year we are celebrating the event's 10th anniversary. Local Food Day is a celebration of domestic food production and the countryside, which aims to highlight the everyday life, experiences and flavours of the Finnish countryside.

Raudanmaa offers both delicious local food and experiences for the whole family. The event is suitable for families with children as well as adults who are looking for a little respite in the peace of the countryside.

The Mäyrä Café and Pikkupiha offer a variety of local food delicacies during the day, with meat and sausages coming from the Karppila Charolais farm next door to the village hall. Outside, there is beef soup, meatball pan, and mushroom soup and tomato-lentil-coconut soup at the Mäyrä Café. There are waffles and pastries for those with a sweet tooth, and a sausage basket for a savory option. Local Food Day meals cost €12. The price of each meal includes admission to Pikkupiha, and otherwise the ticket price is €8.50. Local Food Day meals are available from 10 am to 5 pm. Café Mäyrä and Pikkupiha are open from 10 am to 7 pm. Grilled food is available until 6:30 pm.

In addition to the animals, Pikkupiha has plenty of other things to do. Visitors can take pictures of themselves and their friends in the rustic scenery on the swing, and inside the gymnasium there is a stunt track for children to let off some energy. Outside, a large yard offers space to frolic and play, and Raudanmaa's own small observation tower invites you to peek at the scenery and watch the animals from a slightly higher vantage point.

During the day, Raudanmaa's own apple jam will also be on sale, which is perfect for autumn treats and as a souvenir to take home from a day in the countryside.
