Between the Surfaces

The installation Between Surfaces takes a stand on the explosive growth of spruce pests in commercial forests in Pirkanmaa due to global warming. Monoculture and unsustainable forest management in commercial forests are causing extensive spruce damage, which is accelerated by warming summers and mild winters. The work considers what kind of life bookworms and polygraphists, those other species of small bark beetles, live in commercial forests and what kind of destruction they slowly cause. Despite their destructive power, they consider spruces their refuge, and I wonder if people do the same with their clothes. The Nature Secret Society will present a moving performance in the work on the opening day, May 10, 2025, starting at 2:00 PM. The dance collective includes Tuuti Touhunen and Oona Leinonen, masters of dance arts, and musician Anna Pesonen.The performance lasts approx. 20 minutes.
