Pride book club

Welcome to an open book club gathering at Tahmelan huvila (Tahmela Villa) on Tuesday, June 9 at 5 PM. The discussion will focus on Zeno (WSOY), a verse novel by Dess Terentjeva. If you wish, you may also read the other independent parts of the verse novel trilogy, Ihana and Freestyle. The author will be present at the event, and the discussion will be moderated by Susi Nousiainen.

Dess Terentjeva is a writer from Tampere. Her books are LGBTQ+ literature. Her verse novel trilogy has received several awards, including a recognition award from the WSOY Literary Foundation.

Susi Nousiainen is a poet and researcher. The YA comic Se on amisjuttu! (illustrations by Sara Valta) written by Nousiainen was published this spring. Susi’s debut poetry collection Muovikauris explored transmasculinity and the dismantling of gender-related codes.

Both Terentjeva and Nousiainen grew up in South Karelia, in the areas of Lappeenranta and Joutseno. They are both members of Pirkkalaiskirjailijat.

The book club event is organized in cooperation between Pirkkalaiskirjailijat and Pispala Library.

Accessibility Information:

Tahmela Villa is not fully accessible. There are stairs (5 steps) at the main entrance, and the building does not have ramps. There is no accessible toilet on the premises. If needed, drop-off traffic can reach the front door, and with assistance it may be possible for visitors using a rollator to manage the stairs. An accessible parking space is located less than 25 meters from the building. Guide dogs are welcome. The venue does not have an induction loop system.

Tahmela Villa can be reached by public transportation. Bus number 10 stops approximately 400 meters from the venue.
