At Lingonperry Live Club, ILMU's folk-trip-hop music echoes from Karelia!
ILMU ("air", "weather") is a folk-trip-hop band from the Republic of Karelia, currently living in Tampere. The band plays their own songs, the lyrics of which are in Livonian Karelian. The magically beautiful northern nature of Karelia has inspired the band's songs.
ILMU presents the culture of a new generation of a small people whose language is endangered - the Karelians. ILMU's music describes various natural phenomena and the emotions that arise from contemplating nature.
The musicians use traditional instruments, such as the kantele, jouhikko, bass jouhikko, woodwinds and others (keyboards, electric guitar, violin, etc.). The band mixes the sound of these instruments with an electronic background and songs sung in the Livonian Karelian language.
