Audition for the choir of J.S. Bach's St. John Passion

Would you be interested in singing J.S. Bach's St. John Passion at Tampere Cathedral?

Tampere Cathedral Choir (Tampereen Katedraalikuoro TCC) is looking for new singers to join its ranks. The choir is looking for tenors and basses in particular, but also other voice types. Applicants will be selected based on their vocal and musical abilities in auditions held at Kaleva Church, hall 9.

In the audition, the applicant performs a song of their choice without accompaniment. In addition, the applicant's suitability is assessed through a few voice exercises and a small prima vista task is given. Duration approx. 15 minutes.

The choir rehearses on Sundays

at Tampere Cathedral from 2–4:30 p.m.

The artistic director of the TCC choir is Cantor Riikka Viljakainen, M.A. in Musicology. As a choir member, you will also receive high-quality singing and voice instruction from experienced vocal pedagogue-cantors. The choir's activities are free of charge for you and you will be able to rehearse and perform with orchestras and soloists in the uniquely beautiful Tampere Cathedral.

The St. John Passion will be performed in Tampere Cathedral on Good Friday, April 3, 2026 at 6 p.m.

TCC will begin rehearsals for the St. John Passion on Sunday, November 2.

In 2026, after the St. John Passion, the choir will also have an a cappella concert on May 17 and All Saints' Day, October 31.
