6.3.2026

19.00 - 21.00

Tampere Cathedral / Tuomiokirkonkatu 3b, 33100 Tampere

The traditional screening at Tampere Cathedral features the German silent film classic The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, with live organ accompaniment by Esa Toivola.

The German silent film landmark The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari, 1920) will be screened at Tampere Cathedral on Friday, 6 March, as part of the Tampere Film Festival programme.

Directed by Robert WieneThe Cabinet of Dr. Caligari is a tragic tale of a hypnotist, Doctor Caligari (Werner Krauss), who takes advantage of a sleep walker (Conrad Veidt) to conduct cruel murders. A tale of an unusual killer with the gift of divination.

The film has secured its place in film history above all because of its striking visual design. The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari is indeed a well-known, stylistically pure example of an Expressionist film.

The film will be accompanied by live organ music, improvised by organist Esa Toivola.

The screening begins on Friday 6 March 2026 at 19:00. The doors of Tampere Cathedral will open two hours before the screening. Free admission!
