People and Moments: Uzbekistan and Japan in Pictures
Photographs by Claudia Daems
The exhibition brings together photographs from two very different cultural environments:
captured through personal experience and a strong sense of presence.
Claudia Daems spent 16 weeks in Uzbekistan, immersed in both work and everyday life. As a trainer for German language teachers, she was part of daily routines, not just an observer. Her photographs tell stories of encounters: families, shared work, workshops, and markets. Hospitality and community are visible in everyday life—traditions remain alive and present.
Her experience of Japan was different, shaped by a shorter stay as a traveler. This resulted in a calmer, more observant visual language. Rituals, urban scenes, and everyday moments reflect a society balanced between tradition and modernity, silence and public space.
The photographs in the exhibition are not documentary studies or records of sights, but personal perspectives—moments that have stayed.
