Uzbekistan Through Its People: Portraits of a Hidden Land
Between 2017 and 2018, Claudia Daems spent a total of 16 weeks in Uzbekistan—12 weeks as a trainer for German language teachers and 4 weeks traveling. During this time, she met numerous people who gave her personal insights into a country that remains unknown to many.
Some of these encounters are at the heart of this presentation: scenes from life conveyed through photographs and stories form a multifaceted overall picture of Uzbekistan. Women, in particular, come to the fore. Through their experiences, the performance explores the role of Uzbek women in society—at the intersection of tradition and change, in everyday life, as a source of strength but also facing challenges.
The presentation combines personal insights and photographic moments, revealing both the fascinating and the ambiguous aspects of this country. It is an invitation to get to know Uzbekistan through its voices, stories, and people—up close, intimately, and humanely.
The presentation is held in German!
