In Antti‑Ville Reinikainen's sculptures, everyday objects, furniture and structures open up or merge into each other. In the work Syli, the seat of a rocking chair is replaced by an illuminated car cockpit. In the work Kaapu, a window of a wooden house is revealed from inside a tiled stove. In Syötö, the seat of a highchair meets the grey tail of an airplane.
The title of the exhibition Suojaus refers to both physical shells and psychological structures that protect, hide and at the same time reveal. In the works, safe elements of the home, such as a rocking chair or a tiled stove, are contrasted with something threatening. The tension between safety and threat runs through the exhibition, sometimes also tinged with humor.
Antti-Ville Reinikainen (b. 1980) is a visual artist based in Helsinki who works with various methods of sculpture and sometimes combines them with painting and video art. His works are in the collections of the National Gallery, the Wihuri Foundation, the Turku and Tampere Art Museums, the Saastamoinen Foundation and the Borås Art Museum, among others.
